The spring is setting and I just came home from the most blissful beach weekend with amazing friends, new and old. The feeling of hearing the ocean whisper to me each night and the sound of joyful innocent laughter from friends made me extremely excited for the summer. ❀*ੈ𑁍༘⋆
I look forward to actively engaging and loving the little joys that come with summer, here are a few that I’m excited for:
Taking the ferry as much as I can. - The city subway in 90 degree heat and humidity is no joke. The ferry is a slay and romantic option when available. Catch me pondering down the east river while I make my trek across the city.
Sitting on a stoop for hours with friends forgetting what time it is.- The best memories are made on a random stoop with good friends laughing and telling stories. It’s a historical fact and I will not be told otherwise.
Going to the park and writing by myself. - A book, a journal, and a pencil is all a girl needs (me) to ground herself.
Actually getting my ass to the beach- Last summer I only went to the beach once which made my need to look deeply into The Atlantic Ocean unfulfilled. Rockaways you WILL be seeing me this summer in my cute little bikini and a gaggle of friends. (And maybe I’ll take the ferry there too…)
Picking up some old art projects that got left behind in the ideas journal- My goal is to finish two photo projects I’ve been dying to get done. I will let the summer energy seep into me and let the creative juices flow.
Catching all the Summer movies on my watchlist - The best way to beat the heat is to find yourself in a quiet movie theater to catch whatever is coming out that week. Summer blockbusters you WILL be seen, arthouse indie flicks I will not forget you. (First on the list for June is The Phoenician Scheme, The Materialists, and F1).
Long walks with nowhere to go- I recently enjoyed an impromptu walk with the goal of 25,000 steps with my boyfriend. The joy of walking with no direction, taking in the life around me brought me so much peace. Each month I will try to up the step count.
Engaging with my inner kid- I have a deep need to bring a parachute ( a la kindergarten class) to the park and run around with my friends. Let’s have a field day! Do fun childlike things that just make you laugh without end. Giggling is IN for 2025.
Looking through every street library I come across- My summer reading list is endless, and we will see how much I actually get through. But little street libraries are one of my favorite joys. There is always a hidden gem in there (I recently picked up a collection of Russian short stories from the little library on the beach in Fire Island, I WILL be getting to that).
Getting a little sunburn on the tip of my nose- This is controversial I know…but I love little reminders that I’ve been outside for days on end. I’m not one to get sunburned easily but I love the little lingering kiss that the sun occasionally leaves on my nose.
Going to spontaneous concerts in the park- One of the best things about summer in NYC is all of the amazing programming that the city has to offer. If you text me that there’s a free concert in a park, I will most likely go. From the NY Phil in Prospect Park to Os Mutantes in Damrosch Park, I will be dancing with friends enjoying some of the best talent this world has to offer.

☀︎I hope you all have an amazing summer, I can’t wait to hear what we all get up to. The summer is what you make of it, and I know I will be doing my best to embrace the little joys that come each day. Stay hydrated and beautiful.☀︎
